Really wanted the two images to display side by side. They're a little too big to fit even though I placed the links side by side. So, the top photo is hosted with photobucket, the bottom on Imgur. In reading, I've learned that Imgur compresses photos hosted there to save bandwidth. I've sized these photos, as I do most before hosting them with any host, I'm hoping that the quality does not suffer appreciably. I still want to check my home PC and see if these two images are side by side before reducing the size any more.

M'k, I increased the forum width to 1150. This lets the two images display side by side. If it doesn't screw anything else on the board up, I'll leave it at 1150. If it causes a problem for anyone, just let me know.

I was able to see them side-by-side when you had them that way, and I really, really looked for some differences, but they show pretty much the same quality. I looked at several dew drops, little fuzzy spikes, color, etc.
So far, I've only used imageshack, but I like the idea of testing out a few to see if something else is better.

Thanks apple. I came to the same conclusion. I cropped and sized before I hosted them. It looks like if you do that there isn't any noticeable loss of quality.
Thanks again for a second opinion on the quality comparison.

I find both of them to be of equal quality as well. One thing I don't like about imgur is that if your photos don't have at least one view every six months they get removed. That would (potentially) be hard to maintain.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know that about Imgur. I try to keep copies of everything offline too, but from what I'm reading there is no media presently available that lasts very long. I have old prints that are 50, 60, 70 years old but it seems that digital life is somewhere around 5 years. That's not very good.

Thanks moonbeam. I've looked at most of the free ones. I think at some point I will have to buy some server space.

We all may want to revisit our image hosts, especially the 'free' accounts. Image Shack no longer offers free accounts. I can view the photos I have there but can't link to them. Photobucket has put so much garbage on the pages of our free accounts that it is practically useless (trying to MAKE free account holders upgrade to paid). I'm looking at and trying other hosts. Here are photos from Imgur and Blue Melon respectively. Going back and trying Imgur as a pic host. I can at least get in and out. Photobucket has too much glitz for my computer. Second photo same as first but hosted to Blue Melon.Oh, the little flower is Rough Cinquefoil. It's small, grows close to the ground and has leaves and a seed that looks astonishingly like a wild strawberry. The taste is awful ... ask me how I know!

Trying yet another 'free' host. This one is SlickPic. Just found it and this is the first experience with it. I'll update my views as I go along. ... hmmmm they superimpose they're service onto my pic. I'll have to see if that can be omitted.

To remove SlickPics logo from your photos, you have to upgrade to a paid account. It is easy to delete your account. I just did that. I don't want the logo.

Trying postimage.org. If it's a deal breaker, they do allow adult content to be hosted and linked. This one (postimage.org) is straightforward and easy to use. Used the html feature here with the direct link. I think img links are available for hot linking as well. I don't know how much storage you get with a free account. I'll read the FAQ's when I find them. Don't know the compression rate either. I'll try to post some side by side comparisons. I'll be looking at this host a little more

Attempting a side by side comparison from Photobucket and Postimage. I did get into photobucket but absolutely CANNOT log out. I'm ready to pay for a service if I have to to get away from photobucket. Image on the left is photobucket. The one on the right is Postimage.

Maybe it's my untrained eye, but they all seem about the same as far as quality goes. So I guess it will boil down to ease of use and cost.
