I don't know how big Painted Turtles get but these are the biggest I've ever seen. The two larger ones are nearly two feet across. The water in New River is still pretty cold. It was interesting to watch them stretch out a foot to collect the radiant heat from the sun.

Good set Sam. we used to keep red neck terrapins .
But some people would get fed up with them and release them into the wild so we now have some in are lakes and rivers

Les, some folks catch these painted turtles and 'box turtles' (terrapins) too. These are in the river here and I'd never seen any this big. The two larger ones are in the 50 pound class at least.

Tiki they probably are. They're pretty common and pretty wide spread. I'd never seen any this big before.
