Still working with the Nikon D5100 I ran over with my ATV. Image quality is not what it was before the mishap, but it's coming along. I'm posting two images, the first (top) is from the damaged Nikon D5100, the second is from the new Nikon P520. The two images were taken from exactly the same location less than a minute apart. Both cameras were set to full auto. Please examine the two and give me your input as to the quality of each.

Call me nuts, but I actually like the top one best. I think the colors are richer, and really, the detail is still very good. Dang good, considering it's "broken"!

Good to hear it moonbeam. I agree. I was able to find a 'jobber' length hex wrench and have been 'tweeking' the focus. Nikon wants 200 dollars just to look at it. I'll do what I can before I pay that much, shipping and ins.

Snapped this with the 'broke' Nikon D5100 this morning. I think this is about as close as I'm going to get with the focus. Taken with the 18-55 'kit' lens.

Looks like you've done a good job bringing the camera back to life! I agree about the top photo, and the focus on the bottom looks good for a kit lens, especially since you can't get too close with one. That is a cool looking flower, btw.

Actually it's a weed (Cinqfoil). It looks a lot like a tiny strawberry ... don't taste like 'em though ... ask me how I know ............

Was on a foray yesterday. The 'new' Nikon P520 stopped functioning. I'll try to take it back to the seller (Staples) today. I expect this to be an ordeal.
