A friend recently dropped her Tamron, 18-270 AF zoom lens. It left the front ring as well as the front element (lens) chipped. The front lens had a nasty scratch. This is the same friend that sold me an older lens just like the one she dropped. The lens I bought from her was on my Nikkon D5100 when I ran over it. The lens was destroyed, but I kept it. So ... I was able to use the front element from the first lens on the second lens. There is still a very stiff spot in the lens housing (sleeves) in focusing but the lens does function. The focus seems a bit soft, but I'm hoping that I can adjust both the lens and the camera setting and put this lens back into service (she gave me the second lens as Tamron's warranty does not cover a lens that is dropped and damaged by the owner. The repair cost outside warranty is nearly as much as a new lens). Here is a sample taken yesterday.
