I agree Les. I have some old fishing reels that still work perfectly while some newer ones I've had broke or wore out much more quickly.

WOO HOO! My poppy seeds came in yesterday! I ordered 9,000 seeds. I sowed 3,000 in the bed I tilled up the other day. I saved the other two packages in case I didn't get good coverage when they come up. I can replant. I also have another bed in mind if I do get good results with the ones I sowed yesterday. I also made sure to order heirloom seeds so that I can save seeds year to year. These are the red poppy that is recognized as 'armistice' poppies in honor of our veterans globally. I also carried, bucket by bucket, enough very good quality top soil from right here on the property to fill the curved beds I've made for the Lenten Rose seeds when they get here.

I hope you can Les. I needed this project for mental therapy, physically it's about to kill me !!! I expect I'll have photos of it all covered in snow yet though. It's waaaaay too early for the weather we're having. Too warm.

I've taken some clipping from some trumpet flower vines and am trying to root some in soil and some in water. I need to get some started for the humming birds. I also found a couple more boxes of Daff bulbs. I hope to get those planted after church today.

I did get the daffodil bulbs planted yesterday. I also brought several of the little bluebelles and more lilies home and place them in protective custody I set them out in my garden and covered them with leaves. I have several locations that I want to plant more milkweed and the butterfly weed here on the place besides in the project garden. I read up a little yesterday morning to see if there was anything I needed to know about planting the seeds I'd gathered. I'm glad I did. They must be chilled (stratified?) for at least a month before planting. I labeled some of each in the fridge yesterday. Still plenty of time to plant once they've been in there 4 or 5 weeks.

It's great to see something I've planted sprout and start growing. The Grape hyacinths are coming up!

It's rewarding to see a few things happening in the garden project. A month ago these daffs were just sprouting in a different location. I took them up and set them in the project. It seems that they are going to make it.

This pic is after the sun came out and melted some of the snow. We had between 1 and 2 inches at times yesterday. I'm hoping the landscaping cloth will help the young shoots survive the frigid temps forecast for the next few days.

I had some more seeds come in yesterday, stiff goldenrod and milkweed. The milkweed is for butterflies, particularly Monarchs and the stiff goldenrod is a bushy topped goldenrod that bees love. I have some early spring stuff already started so these mid to late summer additions will be used to lengthen the season for my critters. Both Tiger and Zebra striped Swallowtails love bluebells so I hope I get a good start of them.
The Trumpet Flower vines I'm trying to root in water have put out beautiful leaves. I hope I get some rooting by spring.

Cedar lasts quite well when set as a pole in the ground so I felled this 12" plus diameter cedar this morning for a totem for my garden project. Plans are to leave a branch sticking out to hang a 'WELCOME' sign on and then for the totem do some relief carvings of ... what else? ... butterflies, hummingbirds and honey beezzzzzzzzzzz
