Blood Root is braving the cold and starting to bloom now. This flower has red sap in the stem and in the root which resemble blood. We used to chop the root into fine pieces and add it to our dogs dinner. It will get rid of most common worms in dogs. Bloodroot was also used by eastern American Indian tribes as a red dye and in the treatment of ulcers, skin conditions, and as a blood purifier as well as for treating ulcers and skin conditions. All of these medicinal uses derive from the appearance of the blood-red latex exuded from the fresh root.
