I can remember this huge Beech when it was alive, standing and provided a wonderful food source for squirrels, turkeys, grouse, bluejays and a host of other wild life. It also provided shelter in its hollow cavities within the trunk and huge branches. Wish you could see this whole tree being consumed by False Turkey Tail. These look a lot lie Turkey Tail (Trametes Versicolor) but the upper surface is slicker, almost shiny. The pore surface is brown or buff even when fresh. False Turkey Tail (Stereum Ostrea) is considered inedible but medicinal studies area being conducted.
