Trametes Versicolor's common name is Turkey Tail because it resembles the spread tail of a turkey. It has been researched and found to contain many cancer fighthing properties. It is considered a very beneficial medicinal. It's eaten but instead teas and tinctures are made from it. I make the tea pretty often and I really believe that it's a good health benefit. Turkey Tail grows on decaying wood. I like to scissor sliver about a quarter cup, loose packed. I boil it in a skillet simply because it heats up faster I 'flavor' it with a couple of sprinkles of coarse ground black pepper. I bring the slivers to a full boil in about 1 pint of water. When the liquid has reduced by about half, I turn off the heat (or remove from the stove if I'm making it on the wood stove) and let the mixture steep until it cools enough to handle the skillet and a mug for straining. The tea is strained through a coffee filter. The yield is approximately 8 fl. oz. I drink it hot. It is not delicious but not bad (with the pepper). I think I'll grate some ginger in a batch and see how that tastes. This is a home made recipe. You could boil it longer for stronger.
