Name is misleading. There are tiny, tiny hairlike filaments on the leaves but they are hardly noticeable. The plant is not bitter at all. It has a really good taste eaten raw. It can be gathered, cleaned and cooked like spinach but it would be very labor-intensive. It does spread and can be considered invasive.
