Is that SIRN a ham radio group? just curious because radio maintenance was my original job in the air force...

Nope ... I'm in Emergency Management. SIRN is the little acronym someone came up with for the project we are undertaking of build out a statewide communications network for emergency response (law enforcement, fire depts and EMS primarily). We are actually one of the models for the country. It's taking years. I've attended the annual workshops since the beginning (5 or 6 years now). We have several towers up statewide and much of the state is already using the system for emergency response.

Oh, I see! Did some work on a (probably) similar system in Iraq on a deployment about that long ago...looks like we are going to have a pretty big storm here (by British standards) this weekend.
