Researched a little. Closest ID I could find is the Little Green Heron ... thing is, there aren't supposed to be any of those here?

Wendy Perrone from Three Rivers Avian Center located near here helped me positively identify this as a juvenile Black Crowned Nigh Heron. I was very happy to get photos of it.

That's great that you were able to get a positive ID on it. I'm looking forward to our Great Blue Heron nesting season in the spring. Hoping to get some better pictures this year.

Saw a Great Blue Heron this morning. They almost ALWAYS see me first though. I did take a snap at it in flight. Too blurry to post.

I have never been able to get an 'in flight' photo of a bird. They're hard to zoom in on while keeping it in the viewfinder.

I've had a little luck on Canadian Geese. They're pretty big and don't fly as fast as some other birds.
