I finished round 1 of photoshop classes, but round 2 was canceled since I was the only person signed up. Hope to catch it when it comes around again. Anyway, I've played around a little since then, and happy I took the class. I don't plan on "fixing" all my photos, but because I'm shooing in RAW as well as jpg, it's nice to know how to get things to look how they did when I took the photo. Also, it really is nice to be able to remove something annoying--like a car or people--in an otherwise great photo. Here are two photos that I think I was able to make a big difference with... I got rid of a couple vans and slightly fixed the color cast caused by shooting through a window: I was also able to get rid of an ugly strobe light:

I need that class. Learning photoshop can be daunting. Glad you're working with it. I'm sure you'll be very happy to learn some of the ins and outs. I have a small free editor and I use inpaint to take out some easy noise. That's about my limit.
I think you've greatly improved both photos especially the one with the strobe in it. It took all the ambiance from a wonderfully framed shot. Good Work!

Thanks The class was awesome! Turns out the instructor has been teaching photography at the local community college for 18 years, and photoshop for over 10. Glad I stumbled on it. I had taken a shot of the mountain from a slightly different position, so I was able to cut out the light and blend the second photo into the empty space. The class was on the full version of photoshop, but I've been able to translate to Elements 12 fairly easily. I was having a hard time attempting it before taking the class.

apple, Research this. In the meantime I'll find the link given me by the friends on Digital Image Forum. I downoaded from the link they provided and had no problem with spam or tracking. It is fully functional, you just don't get updates but it give you the full program to work with until you decided to buy. www.techspot.com/downloads/3689-adobe-photoshop-cs2.html

Here's the link I downloaded from apple. This version of photoshop was free and fully functional. I don't know if it still is or not. I may try loading it on my laptop just to see the offer is still available. www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html

Thank you!
I'm able to download it as a free trial, but don't know yet how long I'll be allowed to use it. It also has lightroom as a free trial, which a lot of people I know use, so I can see if that might be worth the purchase if it doesn't stick around on my computer long enough.

It has changed some then. It was an older version completely free when I downloaded it. I've since upgraded to Windows 7 and lost the software. I do hope that the trial will let you get a feel for the software and help make a decision on buying though.
