I picked up a Panasonic Lumix FZ200 (bridge camera) off ebay. Seems well built. Has a leica lens capable of 2.8 through the whole focal range. I think I'm going to like it. Haven't had the time to work with it much. Snapped these Polk berries. Light was good so they came out ok.

The AF zoom goes out to 600 mm equivalent. Probably need to shoot with a tripod. The image stabilization is pretty good but a tripod would help I'm sure.

Yeah, I think mine goes to about 500 mm and at that, a tripod is definitely helpful.

I'm finding great tutorials on youtube. Lots of stuff on the Panasonic and my D5100.
