Well it isn't dead (obviously) and it isn't a nettle. Don't know who named it (it's actually in the mint family but doesn't taste minty). It is edible though and a good source of iron. It's good boiled with seasoning, flower and all, and it's also good, when young and tender, in a salad raw. I hope it's plentyfull this year as it's a very good source of early nectar for the first emerging honey bees!
