Paw paws are a common fruit that grows wild here in Southern WV. It took me years of digging up young trees from my dads old place at Brooks and replanting them at my home. I have several trees now and they grow more and spread from the roots, so I'm planning an even larger patch of them. I want them for soft mast (food) for the critters here. They are delicious once ripe and I eat them once they fall on the ground under the tree. The flesh is a yellow creamy textured pulp. They turn dark to black as they continue to ripen on the ground.
