I saw this little skunk pilfering in the back yard at Brooks so I grabbed my camera and sneaked out on the back porch. Here he's poking his nose into the only thawed ground around looking for worms. If you find little 'cone' shaped holes in your yard this is likely how you got them. He also checked out some 'ready made' holes in the cinder blocks where my grill sets in summer. Check out that crazy white 'rat tail' at the end of his normal tail. I've never seen a skunk have that before. I'm sure he saw me here, but instead of running away, he came to the porch. I had put out a bone from a pork chop in the old 'cat' pan the night before. Next morning it was gone. I'm betting I know WHO found it. Not finding any treats, he continued on his way. He did come much closer. I have some photos with him only about 3 feet away. Never in a hurry, he just sort of 'mozied' up through the yard and on his way.

Really nice collection of shots Sam. Wild life don't have it easy do they. What they have to endure this time of year to get a meal. Makes me feel so sorry for them.

Thanks Les, Tiki and Lumix. And I agree, they do see it rough in winter, especially when we have extreme weather like this year and last. Cold temps and deep snow makes it very difficult for all the birds and animals to find food. Food equals energy which in turn helps keep them warm and their coats weatherproof. I'm hoping spring comes soon.

Tiki when I was young things were not so restricted. I knew people who had squirrels, raccoon, woodchucks and skunks as pets. Skunks that lived with families seldom sprayed their scent and actually made very good pets.
