You could try seed trays to start them off or put the seeds on a grassy area. nice shots

Could be the soil you can get a testing kit to see the acidity of the soil some plants like acid soil some like non acid soil.

That could be the trouble Armistice Poppies grew on the battles fields during the Great War. On ground that was the battle fields turned in to graves . then when they went back after the war the fields were covered in Poppy's no one planted them. try putting so,e seed an some waste ground.

You know, the first year I planted them it was 'waste' land. Just an old clay hillside. They did great!

At first I thought where do you see poppy's growing .in the middle of corn fields. then yhought why did we have 'Poppy's Day'

I removed the potting soil and replaced it with some very poor reddish clay dirt yesterday and sowed more seeds. Hope this works.
