First, thanks to moonbeam for posting about this site! I've just finally started getting into photography this year after a long time of wanting to (I took a class in high school and fell in love). I'll be taking classes later this month so I can hopefully learn how to work the manual settings (I've forgotten everything). I live in a beautiful area and love to take pictures of water, mountains, and sunsets. Someday I'll get quick enough to take good photos of people and animals. Here are some of my favorite pictures from various hikes and stops this summer. This is Oneota Gorge ETA: to get back to the waterfall, you have to climb over a logjam (several people have gotten seriously injured doing this, at least one has been killed), then you have to wade through water that at times can be chest-high or deeper depending on water levels. The falls at the end is worth it though. Horsetail Falls Ponytail Falls (this shot was taken before I got my wide angle lens, I hope to get back up there before the weather gets too cold, the view from behind the waterfall was gorgeous in all the way out the sides)

This photo of a creek is my favorite so far. It's not on any trail or anything, but just off the side of a freeway. You wouldn't even know it was there unless you took a back road and crossed the bridge. This is one of the Overlooks in the Gorge This is a view looking at the Vista House. I didn't have any type of telescoping lens at the time. I now have an attachment and hope to eventually get a full lens (I have a Nikon D3200). Flowers--one of the first pictures I took with this camera. You see the blue/purple ones all the time, don't ever really remember seeing white flowers like this, and these were the only white ones in the area.

WOW! I'm totally blown away with your photos. Your composition is excellent, but the heck with that ... the gorge is spectacular ... afraid I'm going to wear my exclamation mark out. . All your photos are just great. I love that both you and moonbeam have put up such great pics of places I can't get to. Thanks so much for sharing those. I'm just learning about digital photography too. There's lots of good youtube tutorials, and I hope that our workshops here will help us all.

Thank you I like "natural" photos, so I try to get everything just how I like it, shooting in different (still in auto) modes so that I can just download them from my camera and be happy with them. The most I've done so far is crop to get rid of things like elbows, tops of heads, etc, that I can't work around when I'm at the spot. I really do live in one of the most beautiful places in the world (imho). It's a great place for hikes and taking photos. Looking forward to fall colors, snow, and spring flowers during the upcoming seasons. Also looking forward to seeing everyone else's photos!
