I'd like membership to grow a bit, but I'm in no hurry.

As I was driving home from work yesterday, I passed an area that normally is NOT a pond/river. In fact, I often see cows grazing there. However, we've had so much rain the last few days that we have sprouted all sorts of new water "features", lol. Unfortunately, Estes Park has sustained enough damage that I don't think they'll be doing Elk Fest this year.
Here are a couple pictures of our back yard yesterday after 45 min of hard rain. There is a drainage ditch (which doesn't drain, obviously) at the back, behind the tree. Water is deepest there - maybe a foot or so. At the back steps, it's several inches. I didn't take these pictures, by the way, as I was at work when it occurred.

Hate to see that. Hope you didn't get damage to the house. Is there a basement? We've had rain since last September (literally). I haven't flooded but the basement is seeping some and wet and moldy... it's terrible. I really feel for all those folks that have been lost in CO.

No basement. I live in a mobile home so I'm actually up off the ground. I guess that's one good thing about them! All that water was gone very quickly, too.
I hope that the rain stops in time for you to get things dried out before winter.

Are your utilities still on. We loose power here sometimes. We had a derecheo in June of '12 that knocked everything out for a while. Lost all my groceries in the fridge and freezer both. Carried ice as long as it was practical. Hope you get some sun and get dried out.

Yes, still have all utilities. Think it's supposed to start drying out later today or tomorrow so that will help everyone.

Sure hope so. I'v been watching on TV. Devastating I'm out of town for a couple days. The motels wireless doesn't seem to make it to the top floor where I am. 'Stealing' a little from the lobby this A.M. I may be able to get a few area photos on tonight. tootles

Yesterday, we were out and about all day long. First we went to Bailey, to go to the Windy Peak outdoor lab open house. Outdoor Lab is where sixth graders have school in the mountains for a week. They study astronomy, do archery, learn about the settlers, etc. Unfortunately, my son's school goes Dec 2 - 6, so that's going to require some extra clothing allowances.
After that, it was off to Tiny Town, then to Waterton Canyon. We were hoping to see some bighorn sheep there, but after a 1.3 mile walk, we gave up. By that time it was about 4:45 pm. We were tired and sore (had already walked a lot at the open house), and we hadn't eaten since 9:30 that morning. So, we headed off to White Fence Farm for chicken. It's a really popular place here, so we had to wait. Luckily, it was only about 30 min, rather than the hour they said it could be.
Got home just in time for me to have to go to bed, since I had to be up at the usual ass-crack of dawn to go to work today. All that, and I'm dissatisfied with almost all of the pictures I took. <sigh>

Wow, what a day. I love that you are active though. I like tramping around outside. I used to hunt quite a bit, not so much anymore, but I like being out there. You need to invest in some trail mix or energy bars It would be great to see a bighorn. I've never seen one. Crazy shifts. I worked yesterday, off today and Monday then back on Tuesday. October first I go to afternoon shift. We rotate every 3 months. Keeps you all screwed up, never sure when to eat, sleep or mow the lawn .... Hope you got at least a few good shots. It would be a shame to lose a day like that.

Well, I'm not as active as I should be - which is why I'm sore, no doubt.
I think we might try Georgetown next week for bighorn sheep viewing.
I would hate to rotate shifts like that. Back when I used to work in the parts room at the Coors glass facility, they used to rotate nights/days every month (12 hr shifts). It's a wonder they didn't have more injuries because that turnaround is SO hard on your body. Maintenance guys used to walk around in a fog the first week of the new shift.

I was thinking about taking a second look at the pics I took on Saturday, but I was just too stressed out to deal with it.
My sister went to the ER on Sunday after having some pretty intense abdominal pain. They discovered that she'd had an ovarian cyst that burst. They also noticed that her appendix is enlarged, although they said it could just naturally be that way. There's nothing to indicate that it's in danger of rupture. So, as soon as she can manage her pain, they'll release her. Hopefully that will be today.
But yesterday, it did present a lot of logistical problems with getting my son and her daughter home from school. But in the end, it all worked out. Trying to coordinate everything from work (I couldn't leave because there's only 2 of us) was challenging, though.

Ouch! My youngest son's first wife had that happen. It was before they were married. He brought her to our house and cared for her. She looked terrible (because of the condition ... she is a beautiful young lady). She had a lot of pain and it took some time to recuperate.
Been through those school day, work day, crazy change schedules too. Luckily both boys are grown now.

Today was when we were going to go to Estes Park for elk fest. But, with the recent flooding, there's only one way in, not to mention all the damage. I hear they decided to go ahead and have it, but I feel like it would be incredibly selfish to go and impose this year. So, we're considering Georgetown, but the weather there could be really dicey. They were talking about snow yesterday. So, I guess we'll see. Our other thought was to go back to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal but, it's CLOSED. Flood damage due to a dam breaking.
