12" diameter, 15' in length. This is the cedar log that will be my totem for the project garden. I've flatted a spot for the welcome sign to be affixed since none of the branches suited me to hang it from. Project manager checking my rigging. I'm going to set the totem with the big end up to give it character. Yes, there is a bend near what will be the top. That's the reason for the 4X4 under the log, to get it to lay with the bow up. That let me determine the side for the welcome sign board. The board in the photos is for illustration, I haven't chosen the permanent sign board yet.

Coming along nicely Sam - Looks hard work I bet you`ll be glad when it`s finished. No Mic, actually this isn't something I have to do and I can quit at anytime. I'm actually enjoying the project. It will continue as long as I continue to enjoy it. I'm also working on other remote locations at the same time. I got some milkweed, stiff goldenrod and butterfly weed planted in a separate location yesterday.

Though slowed by the weather my garden project has not stopped. Some time back I took clippings from some orange Trumpet Flower vines. I set some directly in dirt and I placed these two into water hoping they'd root. They did. Now I'm hoping to keep them rooting and growing until the weather will permit me to harden them off and plant them in their permanent location in the garden.

Oh, the little potted plant is a 'Strawberry Geranium'. A start was given me by a friend when I helped her re-pot hers. I've never seen one before or seen one bloom. She tells me they are special. This one is growing like crazy now.

To me, this is exciting! One of the little grape hyacinth bulbs that I planted recently in the project garden is putting out a bud! It's great to see something I've specifically put in for the garden coming to life!

My project garden faces almost due west so I wanted a sunrise on my totem. It is the top most carving on the post. I've got it roughed in, just have to finish it now.

I placed a temporary puddling station in the garden today until I can get one built. I just borrowed a kitty litter pan, added dirt, a stone perch and a food pan with some orange peel, apple and a wee modicum of a secret ingredient from Anheuser Busch. I also got the 'WELCOME' sign rough cut. It is not attached to the pole and the word 'WELCOME' is not on it yet. I added 'WELCOME' with software. Once the sign board has been smoothed from the coping saw cuts, I'll carve and burn the word WELCOME in and attach the sign to the totem.

I got the sign made. Not nearly as nice as the computer one but functional anyway. I haven't attached it yet. I'll pre-drill all the holes than mount it once the pole is ready to set into the ground.

It's very rewarding now that I'm getting guests to my garden. Honey bee on purple grape hyacinth. I have a pic of one on a white hyacinth in the garden as well. I'll add it when it comes out of the camera.

Thank you Magix. I have some things growing from seeds I've planted now, milkweed, the buckwheat, firecracker flower and the Armistice Poppies are way too thick and will have to be thinned. Most of the seed I'd sown washed down to one spot. That's another reason I want to terrace this hillside garden, to keep down erosion.

UPDATE: The buckwheat is coming up. I have more in with the wildflowers and milkweeds I've planted. And I have some milkweed up and coming along nicely.
