Thank you Les. The weather and having to take time to mow now is costing me time, but I'm in no hurry.

The buckwheat I sowed for the honeybees was looking good yesterday. I'm afraid the frost may have gotten it last night. It was clear most of the night but fog came in before daylight. I'm hoping that may have saved it. In the first pic you can see buds, the buckwheat is just getting ready to bloom

I think some of it got nipped. The photos were the day before the frost. I'll know more today. There's still time for more frost too.

The buckwheat is a little yellow from being too wet too long but it's starting to bloom now. I hope it feeds a few honeybees. And my Armistice Poppies are starting to bud.

Poppies started blooming just in time for Memorial Day.

Here's the flower bed I put in yesterday. Got rained on before I got finished, that should help the seeds though. Sowed two boxes of 'wildflower' mix. One butterfly mix, one hummingbird mix. Both should be good for bees in late summer, early fall.

The second planting of buckwheat is coming up, what's left! . Cardinals scratched up and ate a lot of the buckwheat seed!

The Cardinals left a little seed but then deer and rabbits ate some of the plants as they grew. Despite all that a somewhat abbreviated second crop of buckwheat is starting to bloom. Just in time too as the milkweed blossom and poppies are all but gone.

I wish it had done better but I can't be too disappointed in the hay bale terrace. Just when the wildflowers should have been thriving, we were in a drought. A little rain lately has brought some of them back. Though sparse, it does add a touch of color to the project garden.
